Charlie and Annie’s Daily Poll: Should radio and television personalities have freedom to say what is on their minds or do they often go too far and need to be reigned in?
ESPN has suspended Tony Kornheiser for remarks he made on his radio show about co-worker Hannah Storm. Kornheiser made disparaging remarks about the outfit Storm was wearing while she hosted a Tuesday morning edition of “SportsCenter”. She was wearing red knee-high boots, a plaid skirt and “very, very tight shirt”.
Kornheiser said that the clothes were inappropriate for a woman of her age; he added that he was not sure if she is in her upper 40’s or early 50’s. He elaborated that it looked like she had a “sausage casing wrapping around her upper body” and that she had become a “Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point.”
Ouch!
Kornheiser has since apologized, but apparently has still been suspended for two weeks. He stated after his apology that, "If you put a live microphone in front of someone, eventually that person will say something wrong."
Annie: What is wrong with that guy?
Charlie: Apparently, he doesn’t have much experience with women!
Annie: He needed to comment on the poor girl’s wardrobe on a sports show? Stick to football, baseball and basketball!
Charlie: I guess it was something that was REALLY bothering him!
Annie: What happened to the good old days of radio and TV when there was civility? Now, all we get is sex, swearing and idiots shooting their mouths off like this!
Charlie: It’s the era we live in; it’s a crowded field so to get noticed these guys have to do something to stand out. Most of them aren’t talented enough to get noticed through their wit so they spout things that are controversial and/or provocative!
Annie: I think it’s disgusting. I like Hannah and she’s just going about her business trying to earn a living. She doesn’t deserve to be attacked like that, especially by an ugly, bald, old guy who shouldn’t be critical of the way ANYBODY else looks; he should take a look in the mirror!
Charlie: I agree he shouldn’t have said those things, but he’s a “choir boy” compared to somebody like Howard Stern.
Annie: Oh, don’t even get me started on THAT imbecile!
