The American Heart Association has released a list of the Seven Secrets to a Long Life:
-Don’t smoke;
-Don’t be overweight;
-Get moderate exercise;
-Consume a healthy diet;
-Maintain a good cholesterol level;
-Keep your blood pressure in the recommended range;
-Keep your blood sugar in check.
Research indicates that most 50-year-old people who can do these seven things can expect to live another 40 years free of stroke and/or heart disease.
The list was published online in the journal “Circulation” on Wednesday.
The Heart Association has an online quiz to help gauge how close you are to achieving these seven goals and tips for improving if you fall short.
Charlie: I’m glad mama and papa have this information so they can stay nice and healthy!
Annie: It is very important stuff!
Charlie: You know it! They need to be able to maintain OUR active play schedule!
Annie: Imagine if papa developed heart disease; he wouldn’t be able to cast the fishing pole toy for us for an hour at a time like he does now!
Charlie: We can’t let that happen! We need to monitor and make sure he and mama stick to the advice from the American Heart Association.
Annie: Better yet, we should get them on OUR regiment. Cats almost never develop heart disease!
Charlie: Eat well, play a lot, sleep a lot; you can’t have a healthier lifestyle than THAT!
