Cat Fact: Contrary to popular belief, dogs and cats are not really enemies. If introduced to each other at a young age, they can even become best buddies!
The human spirit is amazing; heartwarming tales can even emerge out of a war!
Corporal Michael Lemmons is a soldier serving in northern Afghanistan. About six months ago, his unit discovered an abandoned puppy in a cave they were searching. They rescued the puppy and took her back to their headquarters. Michael has since become very attached to the dog, Ally, and decided he wanted to take her home to Louisville, Kentucky. Michael called his parents and informed them of his desire to keep Ally.
That is when his parents got busy! They raised several thousand dollars and arranged to fly Ally back to the U.S. The trip is around 7,000 miles! Ally had a travel companion in Delilah, a dog who was adopted by a soldier from Texas.
John Lee, a volunteer with Pilots-N-Paws, flew Ally from New York to Louisville. Mr. Lee told Michael, “We thank you for what you do for the country.” He also stated, "What we do is just so little compared to what he does over there so if I can help just a little bit that's what I wanted to do."
Annie: What a great story, especially with the holidays approaching! With the war and all the other bad news we hear every day, it’s really nice to hear such an encouraging story!
Charlie: Yes, but…
Annie: But what?
Charlie: It involves a DOG! I would feel much better if they rescued a cat!
Annie: I’m sure soldiers have rescued many cats over there, you just haven’t heard about them yet. Besides, you don’t even know any dogs so I don’t know where this negativity is coming from!
Charlie: You’re right! It’s just that when Rusty wanders by, he tells me about the neighbor’s dog that chases him out of the yard and…..
Annie: I’d chase Rusty out of the yard too, if I could! He’s nothing but a trouble maker!
Charlie: Next time I’ll consider the source before forming a general opinion! It IS a wonderful story!
