Senator Robert Byrd is now the longest serving member of congress ever. He is 91 years old and has served for over 56 years. I guess he’s not a big believer in the concept of term limits. It looks like he’ll be there until they carry him out! He has certainly witnessed a great deal of history while in Washington, from the early days of the cold war through to the election of the first African-American president and he is still going strong!

Annie: Imagine all the changes he has seen and history he has been a part of!

Charlie: Yes….Think of all the tax money he has had a part in fleecing out of the American people!

Annie: I think it is admirable that someone has served their country so long.

Charlie: Most of these Washington political types only serve THEMSELVES at our expense!

Annie: Politics does seem like a bit of a dirty business.

Charlie: They obviously don’t mind getting a little dirty to wield all that power!

Annie: With all the back stabbing, personal attacks and just nasty rhetoric flying all over the place I can’t imagine being in Washington for 56+ years.

Charlie: I’m sure it’s been worth his while or he wouldn’t still be there!

Annie: I don’t know why people can’t just get along; they have to divide themselves into groups called democrats and republicans and then they’re at each other’s throats constantly.

Charlie: They should be more like us. Just keep us well fed, play with us whenever WE want and make sure we can sleep any time/place we want and everything is cool!

Annie: What could be more agreeable than a platform like that!?!?
